Top Sights for a Weekend in Dubai

Great. You’ve only gone and got yourself a weekend in Dubai.

What are you going to do with it?

If you’ve only got a limited amount of time, first thing’s first, get yourself a cheap hotel in Dubai and then try and fit as much of this as you can.

By the way, for anybody who doesn’t live in Dubai, the normal work-week here is a bit different. It’s not a Monday – Friday work week, it’s a Sunday – Thursday work week with Friday and Saturday being the, ‘weekend days.’ Got that? Good.

Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa

If you’re on limited time in Dubai, your number one has got to be The Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. If you’re unaware, they’re located directly next to each other so a good thing about this one is you can do two things at once. Not just two things though. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and The Dubai Mall is the largest shopping centre in the world. Cool, right? You can really spend all day between these two and if that’s what you want to do, of course, you can.

Shop until you drop at Dubai Mall, where you’ll find every brand you can imagine and then enjoy the At The Top experience where you can go up to the 125th floor in the Burj Khalifa, don’t worry, they have lifts. If you manage to hang around until the evening and I would recommend you do, you can also enjoy the second largest choreographed fountain show in the world at the Dubai Fountains, situated between The Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar, conveniently right in front of the Burj Khalifa. That’s a good time to take some photos.

Dubai is known for it’s amazing souks (marketplaces) and some of the biggest, best and most traditional of those are the Gold Souk, Textile Souk (Old Souk), Spice Souk and the Perfume Souk. If you like haggling and want to experience some traditional Arabian culture, the souks are the places to be. Grab a bargain and justify buying yourself something gold.

Burj Al Arab

The world’s only seven-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab is the most luxurious hotel in the world. With a nightly cost of between 5,000 AED (£1,000) and 33,000 AED (£6,500), for most people it’s a little out of their reach. But don’t fret, you can still enjoy many of the excellent restaurants at the Burj Al Arab without being a guest. Go ahead and book your table now.

Ski Dubai

Ski Dubai, inside the Mall of the Emirates, is an 85 metre tall snowy mountain ski resort. With 5 slopes of varying difficulty and the only indoor black-diamond run in the world, Ski Dubai also offers toboggan and sled slopes and, if you’re extra lucky, you can even meet the penguins who live below the mountain. How exciting.

Jumeirah Beach

Finally, after a long hard busy weekend in Dubai, you’ll want to relax on one of the most beautiful beaches in Dubai, Jumeirah Beach. With a view of the sea, sand and the Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach is a wonderful place to relax and soak in the sun.
