January Events in Dubai
It’s a New Year, and with a New Year comes great new events. Dubai is going to be absolutely chock-full of amazing things to see, do and be a part of in 2018. With the build-up, each year, to Expo 2020, Dubai is layering on more and more fantastic events around the country to raise the level of excitement and it’s definitely working.
January might just be the best month yet for live performances and sporting, so make sure you’ve thoroughly checked out all of these great events going on in Dubai in January 2018

Dubai Shopping Festival
The Dubai Shopping Festival is going to be the top retail event of the year in Dubai. There’s going to be major prices slashed with great discounts and promotions going on almost everywhere. Malls will be hosting celebrations and competitions and everybody will have one extra excuse to do some shopping.
The Dubai Shopping Festival is taking place from the 26th of December to the 27th of January 2018.
Cirque Du Soleil’s Toruk – The First Flight
This throwback to the 2009 blockbuster hit, Avatar, is a show designed by Cirque Du Soleil to bring together a mixture of acrobatics, stunts and music to really make you feel like you’re travelling through Pandora’s forests.
Toruk – The First Flight is taking place from the 4th of January until the 17th of January and tickets will cost between 295 AED (£60) for a silver package all the way up to 2,495 AED (£509) for the ultra luxury Royal VIP Package.
Dubai World Cup Carnival
The Dubai World Cup Carnival will be taking the stage at Meydan Racecourse this January to compete for a whopping $10 million (£7.5 million) in prize money. This race will be made up of 10 global race meetings all leading up to the final race in March.
Dubai World Cup Carnival takes place on the 11th, 18th and 25th of January at Meydan Racecourse. Visitors can enter for 40 AED (£8) but if you’re looking for better views, food and drink you’ll pay anywhere from 50 AED (£10) to 595 AED (£121) per person.
The Jazz Garden
This signature one-off event that stemmed from the incredibly popular Jazz Festival will be a completely free event where you can see some of the best blues and jazz musicians from around the world playing here in Dubai. This time it’s set up as a series of monthly gigs and January’s line up will include Gisele Jackson, Raphael Wressnig, Julian Vaughan and a local act.
The Jazz Garden will be taking place on the 19th of January for January’s section and although it’s free you’ll need to register online.
Urban Outdoor Cinema
What it is: With a showing of a huge choice of family friendly and classical films three times per week, the outdoor cinema experience will be something to welcome in the New Year in a unique and fun environment. Great to go to as a group. Don’t forget to wrap up warm, though, remember the nights can get quite chilly in Dubai and this is an outdoor event.
When it is: You can enjoy this unique outdoor cinema experience from the 6th of January from 7:30 PM onwards.
Where it is: The Habtoor Grand at the Dubai Marina.
How much it is: 75 AED (£15) per person.
Market Outside the Box
What it is: Market Outside the Box is running for its fifth year and this year is promised to be even bigger and better, with loads of great live entertainment, food trucks and some of the best new products on the market, Market OTB is guaranteed to be a fantastic day out.
When it is: Market OTB runs from the 11th to the 20th of January, 2018. Sunday to Thursday from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM and then Friday and Saturday from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
Where it is: Burj Park in Downtown Dubai.
How much it is: Absolutely free.
Witness Evita’s Talent at the Dubai Opera
What it is: The Dubai Opera is starting off the New Year with the fantastic and amazingly talented Evita, this talented performer will be gracing the stage with her presence at the Dubai Opera in Downtown Dubai and is sure to be a performance to remember.
When it is: From the 22nd of January until the 3rd of February. Monday to Thursday at 8:00 PM and then Friday and Saturday at 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
Where it is: The Dubai Opera in Downtown Dubai.
How much it is: Tickets start at 250 AED (£50) per person.
